The best decision I’ve made in my academic career was taking the Media Communication class at Masco my sophomore year. After discovering my passion for broadcasting and journalism, I rose to Editor-in-Chief and Director of our weekly broadcast by my junior year. In these roles, I have edited over 200 peer articles, mentored classmates on studio equipment and on-air techniques, and advocated for the program by visiting English classes to pitch the course and encourage students to join. Through leading by example and supporting others, I’ve helped grow both the quality and reach of our media program. How staff members and fellow writers view my leadership is what matters most to be me so below are some quotes from the staff.
From the Staff
“Sam’s leadership is truly inspiring. I wanted to pursue a career the media realm, and he convinced me to take the Media Communications class and has been by my side ever since. Whenever I’m having trouble hitting a deadline or editing my share of the weekly broadcast, Sam is there to help. He helped me build my journalist career from the ground up and has helped me grow into a writer I’m proud of. ”
“Whenever I see Sam, he is always helping out another student or working hard in class. I truly see him as a role model. He is always working hard in class, and I always appreciate his help. Whenever I have a question about an article or a news segment, I always go to Sam.”
“Sam is my right-hand man in the studio. My co-anchor is always down to do my weird ideas for an intro or a segment on the Morning Update. His positive attitude always brings more energy and fun to the studio!
